Phantom Ambulances and More at Abandoned Man Community Hospital

Man is a small community located in Logan County, WV.

In 1954, construction began on the Man Community Hospital. While breaking ground for the new hospital, a major Indian village dating from about 1450-1550 A.D. was unearthed.

It was later discovered that this village spanned throughout the property of the hospital, and nearby Man High School on East MacDonald Avenue.

The hospital closed in 2001 due to budget cuts. Details on the haunting phenomenon have been scarce, but there are tales of phantom ambulances pulling up, electrical disturbances, and the general symptoms of unexplained noises, etc.  If anyone has any stories or details, please let me know!

  1. October 2009 Me and a few of my friends went inside sometime at night. I'm not familiar with the layout of the hospital so I can't tell you where all we went. But I do know we were in the physical therapy room. (due to all the equipment, weights, play dough, and other stuff) I was staring into the office when I seen someone walk past me out of the corner of my eye, I even felt the wind as they past. I thought It was my friend so I turned to tell him something and it wasn't him. It was someone else. I stared at this person for a long time then he just disappeared. My mom said she was yelling at me trying to make me move but it was like I was frozen. She started shaking me and she said the only thing I said was, "we need to get the hell out of here." about the same time my friends who were in the "surgical suit" started screaming too. I ran in there to see what was going on and I could smell death and chemicals...it's the only way I know how to describe it. I put my hand on the operating table and this image of the same man I just seen flashed into my mind. It was him laying on the table with his chest open. I didn't tell anyone else this until we came home. When I started telling them what I saw one of my friends finished my sentence at the same time. Everyone I've told this too has thought I was crazy. But I know for a fact that's what I saw.....

  2. My name is Sherri Endicott and I've lived in Man since I was 5 yrs. old. I graduated from Man High School. I was curious if any stories exist about the property the high school is build on. I've heard a few stories, centered on the graveyard that is on the Man High School campus. All I know is that it's so old, the headstones look like rocks. No writing can be seen on any of them anymore. If anyone knows anything about that, I'd love to hear about it!!

    1. Hi, Sherri. The only thing I ever heard about was the Indian Village that spanned under part of the school. I hadn't heard about a cemetery! In our field, that's always a factor to look at when examining the haunted history of a building or location! I haven't heard any ghost stories about the school itself, but I'll keep an eye out and update if I find anything.

Also, if there's anyone out there who has any stories, please feel free to share them here, or email me at Theresarhps@yahoo.com Thanks!

  3. That photo up there gives me shivers. I am a local from Pike County KY just across the way from Logan and didn't know the hospital had been shut down. I have had many unexplainable things happen to me and to the people around me and I wanted to say that I adore your page. :) My husband and I go over to Logan and we did the 22 Mine Road car going back up the hill thing and we heard about Mamie Thurmond's ghost walking the road in the early morning hours. We haven't seen her yet, but we've seen our share of ghosts.
